“The Family Crisis Center invites you to our 11th Annual Pedal Thru The Pines for a fun-filled cycling event that directly supports the programs and service offered by the Center. This year cyclists will enjoy riding the country roads of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties that are close to the parks. The routes provide a unique experience for cyclists of every level. Well stocked rest stops, friendly volunteers and a top notch veteran SAG Team add to the success of this event.

Thank you for supporting the Family Crisis Center and our vision of a safe community built on equality without the existence of violence.

What:

  • Distances of 17, 27, 47, 62 miles (on paved roads).
  • All routes have SAG support, rest stops with restrooms and refreshments.
  • BP MS 150 Recommended Ride.
  • Mechanical support at the start and at all rest stops.
  • Ride Tips and FAQ – This can be a challenging ride for some, please read our Ride Tips and FAQ page describing the route and tips on riding and training.

Early Registration:

Early registration is available (both by mail and online) through Wednesday, February 28, 2013 with a $40 fee. Participants must send payment and completed forms postmarked by this date or register through the online system. After this date, online registration is available through March 7, 2013 with a $45 fee. Participants may also register in person, at Vernon L. Richards Riverbend Park from 6:30-8:30 AM, on ride day with a $45 fee.

T-Shirts:

Each year, the Center orders t-shirts for cyclists riding in Pedal Thru The Pines. A t-shirt will be available for cyclists who pre-register for the event. T-shirts and packets can be picked up by pre-registered cyclists the day of the event beginning at 6:30 AM. T-shirts for cyclists who register the day of the event will be distributed, based on availability, after the ride. For cyclists registering on the day of the event, it is not possible for us to guarantee a shirt, or shirt of your desired size.

The gentle hills of Colorado and Fayette Counties offer cyclists a unique setting not found in bike rides around the Houston area. Cyclists will also discover very little vehicle traffic on the routes.

Commonly referred to as the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” Columbus is conveniently located at the junction of Highway 71 and 1-10, seventy miles west of Houston, 90 miles southeast of Austin and 120 miles east of San Antonio.

Starting Point:
The Rolling Hills Challenge will begin at Colorado County Beason’s Park on the east bank of the Colorado River.

From Houston (traveling west on I-10): Take the 698 exit and follow Hwy. 90 towards Columbus. Beason’s Park will be on your left prior to crossing the Colorado River bridge.

From San Antonio (traveling east on I-10): Take the Columbus 696 exit, turn left under the freeway and go north on Business Hwy 71, veer to the right on Spur 52 to downtown Columbus. Turn right at the red light on to Walnut and continue until you cross the Colorado River bridge. Beason’s Park will be on your right.

From Austin (traveling south on Hwy-71): Take the Columbus Business Hwy 71 exit and turn left under the highway. Follow Business Hwy 71 across the Colorado River into Columbus. Pass under the railroad tracks and turn left at Walnut / Hwy 90 (first red light). Continue east on Walnut and continue until you cross the Colorado River bridge. Beason’s Park will be on your right.

STARTING TIMES:

Registration packets may be picked up from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Beason’s Park Pavilion the morning of the ride.  No packets will be mailed.

Riders can register on the day of the ride from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Fees:

Pre-registration is $35 per person and includes a T-shirt, if received by Wednesday, May 1.  Tandem pre-registration is $55.  T-shirts are not guaranteed for entry forms received after the May 1st deadline.

On the day of the ride, the registration fee is $40 per person and $65 Tandem.

All riders will receive an after-ride meal.

Children under 12 ride free and do not receive a T-shirt.  A T-shirt can be purchased for $10.

On-site registration will be accepted until 9:00 a.m. Ride will take place rain or shine. Sorry, no refunds.

Rest Stops:

Stops are available about every 15 miles along the route with refreshments and portable toilets.  Roving vehicles will travel the routes to assist riders, but riders should be equipped to fix flats and do minor repairs.  Emergency medical assistance will be provided by the Colorado County EMS.

Safety:

The cyclists’ safety is a concern of the organizers of the Rolling Hills Challenge 2013.  Cyclists are expected to obey the rules of the road and honor all traffic signs and lights.  Cyclists will also be asked to form a single line to allow vehicles to pass.  Use of an ANSI or SNELL approved bicycle helmet is strongly recommended.

  • The 8th annual Texas pledge bike-ride solely benefiting breast cancer awareness and education.

In 1991 the Hammond Kiwanis Club successfully inaugurated the Tour de’ Tangipahoa bicycle ride. A large group of cyclists toured the beautiful North Shore countryside and all seemed pleased with this pleasant, yet challenging trek through storied Tangipahoa Parish. This year, the Kiwanis Club is proud to present the 22nd edition of the Tour de Tangipahoa. We just know that you will enjoy participating in this great event that we are trying very hard to make the greatest bicycle tour in the region. We will offer a 30 mile intermediate ride and a challenging 60 mile tour.

“Join us September 21st for the 29th annual edition of the All-You-Can-Eat Century. We’ll be traveling the same great roads of northern Alabama and southern Tennessee since establishing our five new routes in 2011. We have some exciting changes in the works for 2013. Check back for more details.

New for 2013

The All-You-Can-Eat Century is now part of the inaugural Alabama Backroads Century Series. ABCS is a collective of the top century rides in Alabama that challenges riders to complete any four full 100-mile rides throughout the season, and to promote recreational riding throughout the state. Alabama is a well-kept secret of good roads and great riding.

Riders will receive a custom ‘Centurion’ medal for each event completed, a commemorative embroidered patch showing each ride location and recognition as a Centurion on the website on completion of the four rides.   • Five Routes for Cyclists of All Abilities! Chose from five scenic routes from a moderate 36-mile loop to the challenging 109-mile Century.

2013 Louisiana EMS Memorial Ride – New Orleans to Gonzales (60) @ Delgado Community College

“Each year, dedicated members of the Louisiana EMS community go out into our communities to provide care for those in need during times of crisis. Some of our members do this directly by intervening during a patient’s medical emergency. Some of our members do this indirectly by teaching others to provide care or get involved in the development of EMS systems throughout our State.

Unfortunately, some of these professionals are victims of an untimely death. Whether the loss of our heroes was due to a line of duty death or an untimely death due to illness, the impact from the loss within our profession is no less dramatic.

LANREMT is proud to take the lead in organizing a fund raising event whose purpose is to raise awareness of our fallen members and ensure that their sacrifice and contribution is never forgotten.

The 2013 Bike MS: Louisiana will take place Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. The ride begins at 8:00 AM and starts at the University Center (500 W. University Ave. Hammond, LA 70401) of Southeastern Louisiana University. The route each day is 75 miles and there are six rest stops along the way. On Day 1 participants leave Southeastern Louisiana and head north to Percy Quin State Park in McComb, Mississippi. Upon entering the park, participants are greeted by a Louisiana-style party which includes music, beer and food provided by Chef John Folse! Participants overnight at the park before heading back along the same route on Day 2. The event concludes on Sunday, October 6, at Southeastern Louisiana University where they are again treated to great food and wonderful music.

The route is fully supported with Ride Marshals, Support and Gear (SAG) and Police should you need any assistance along the way. Each rest stop is equipped with a bike shop repairman to assist with any needs that may arise along the route. In the event that you are only able to ride Saturday, transportation is provided back to Hammond, LA around 8:00 PM Saturday evening and again around 8:00 AM Sunday morning following the start of Day 2.

Online registration will close at 5:00 PM Friday, September 20. Early Packet Pick-up will begin September 23 and end September 27. The $275 fundraising minimum must be turned in and/or submitted in order to pick up your packet. Walk-up Registration and Packet Pick-up will be available on Friday, October 4 from 5:00-9:00 PM and again on the day of the event, Saturday, October 5 from 6:00-8:00 AM at the University Center of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA.
